Finding Soul
"You say "bring back the soul", which presupposes that there was something of soul in the first place.- But what if all art is for, is for this? For getting agrivated, for feeling out of the loop?" - Liam
Attempting to rethink this notion as a "designer". Why have I been fighting for soul in design. What if it simply is a marketing venture. An engineering process - Applying function to something to fulfill a need.
The design "gods" embrace this system of marketing. They play within it and are very successful at it.
Why does it need greater meaning? Why am I fighting for an idea that is so flawed?

the end justifies the means...

try not to break anything that can't be fixed, luca.
The "finding" is not the point Luca, it is the "searching" that we thrive on.
Think about how often you have sat browsing google for something that deep down you know does not exist?
How often hav you read the trading post for that one bargain that is never there?
The rationale is not finding a need, but needing to find - some aspirant meaning, that once found closes of the possibility and urgency for the 'find'.
Think about "finding' peace - you need to practice peace to find it - this is exactly what Bruno Latour meant with Actor Network Theory - the theory is in the "work-net".
All theory fails as the world changes in respons to the positing of the theory - and that is the point.
Sounds hopeless doesn't it?
