More Figurative Abstract
Art is a complex beast. To quote a hyper ballad its like an echidna, the closer you delve the more the spines stick into you. So why do I feel so disenfranchised with the state of art at the moment?
“if you throw dead donkeys at people they’ll throw money back”
- George Orwell in regards to Salvidor Dali’s work:
Artists are desperate. We are desperate
What is left to paint/create. Has it all been done before.
Why are the trendsetters rehashing stale early 20th century concepts:
Truly great artwork has a meaning that exceeds beyond the concept.
Embrace the figure, Embrace the symbol. This is the foundation, This is where the complex communities thrive.
This is where the psychological and social impact of the work will outlive the art.
The art itself is insignificant compared to the discourse it creates. An artwork can be so powerful it can inspire an entire movement.
But we must question that movement – exceed beyond it
- rethink/destroy/contrast/remember
- DOn’t imitate
Should we be “stuck”.
Why are the Stuckists relevant?
“What was once a searching and provocative process (as Dadaism) has given way to trite cleverness for commercial exploitation”
Destroy the “ego-artist”
“give up the laborious task of playing games of novelty, shock and gimmick”
Why is this so relevant to us and to design?
Are the Artist and the designer joined in mutual irrelevance? Would our work be meaningless without a community around it.
